Areas of Practice
Litigation – Plaintiff and Defendant Representation:
Stackpole & French has been actively involved in providing civil litigation services to individuals and businesses in State and Federal Courts since 1964. Stackpole & French represents both Plaintiffs and Defendants in a wide array of matters ranging from individual disputes to complex multiple-party litigation.
Real Estate:
Stackpole & French has been extensively involved in Stowe and Northern Vermont real estate since 1964. During that period, we have represented area builders; developers of subdivisions; condominium and timeshare developments; homeowners’ associations; and banks; as well as purchasers and sellers of land, residences, and commercial properties. The firm’s expertise includes an extensive knowledge of State and local permit procedures for new properties, as well as the ability to provide comprehensive assessments of existing permits and permit compliance issues for existing properties. Stackpole & French maintains close working relationships with area banks, real estate offices, towns, land planners, and engineers.
Corporate:
Stackpole & French represents its corporate clients in a variety of areas from initial formation and entity selection to regulatory compliance, contract negotiation, mergers, acquisitions, dissolution, and winding up. We work cooperatively with our clients, and also with our clients’ accountants and other business advisors, to ensure that our representation adds value to their businesses.
Utility:
Stackpole & French has extensive experience in representing clients in utility matters. We have provided counsel for our utility clients on day-to-day activities, as well as advocacy before local governments, state regulatory bodies such as the Vermont Public Service Board, and on the federal level before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the United States Supreme Court.
Wills, Estate Administration:
Stackpole & French has provided estate planning advice to its clients for many years, creating comprehensive strategies for handling transfers of property and dealing with end-of-life health care decisions. From individuals with relatively straightforward estates to those with many and diverse assets, we take a proactive approach to planning for succession-related issues. We have experience advocating for both decedents and survivors in the probate process.
